Jianhan Zhu

Author: Jianhan Zhu

Jianhan Zhu (PhD) is a research fellow working at the Knowledge Media Institute at the Open University in UK. His research is focused on making the gigantic amount of information on the Web more readily available to users and machines for automatic processing. His current research is focused on discovering named entities on the Web scale and using these named entities for constructing semantic Web applications which help user search and manage information. He designed ESpotter, an adaptive named entity recognition system, which adapts lexicon entries and patterns to a domain hierarchy for recognizing entities of various types from various domains with high precision and recall. His PhD research is concerned with mining the link structure of a Web site for knowledge about the Web site and its users, and using the knowledge to assist users to navigate and search the Web site for their desired information effectively and efficiently. His research interests includeWeb Link Structure Mining, Named Entity Recognition, Information Extraction, and Natural Language Processing.
