What are Local Groups?
Local Groups will expand your career network—whether you are interested in learning new skills, finding job opportunities or looking for a new employee.
A Local Group is a group of people who, like you, are passionate about design. Local Groups organize meetings to get inspired, have fun and learn from one another.

Meet-Up Details

I wish I was there to join the first Meetup, it seems like it was a good talk. The next can be at my place, online or your pick for Cafe. Please let me know in the comments which you would prefer! If it’s a bigger group than 10, we will need to pick a place or meet online.

It’s going to be an informal, cozy meet-up with fellow designers! I also wanted to make this meetup focused on humanitarian issues we are facing globally today and brainstorm technical solutions.

To give you some content I wanted to discuss, perhaps in the next meeting… here are some links to my blog posts where I am writing about some of these to get the conversation started: -

Mini Hackathons for Refugee Kids
HCI Against Human Trafficking
Hackathon Reflection

List of topics I wanted to expand on:

  1. Humanity-centered design to solve the world’s most pressing issues and how important it is to collaborate with designers in various professions, from service design, to ux and ui, and management.

  2. Organizations or design groups to join to design for positive change and/or inspiration.

  3. Areas you like to design for (ex. combating human trafficking, biotech, wildlife, medical, environmental, refugee crisis, etc.) and how do we tackle these issues as UX professionals?

  4. Best design for humanity events to attend.

Please feel free to share yours as well or what has been discussed in the first meeting, so we can continue exploring those as well! Thanks!!

Meet-Up Discussion

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss Chicago For Humanity held on Nov 19, 2022. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

I’d love to attend online on Dec. 17th. I actually live in Kalamazoo, MI but the closest “local” groups are Chicago, Ann Arbor, or Detroit. I’m also not working professionally in UX Design yet. I’m currently an eager student in the process of trying to make this career change. Hopefully neither of these factors prohibit me from joining. Thank you!

Hi, Lisa. All IxDF meetups are open to everyone, so you are welcome to join! P.S. I live in Minneapolis, I’m not a professional, and I’m studying UX. Yet, I attended a Chicago event online yesterday, and I plan to attend others in the future. I hope to see you at one. :-)

Thank you EJ! That is reassuring to hear. I hope to see you at a future event as well. Thanks for the response and good luck on your UX journey!

@klara (or others in the know), could you confirm that this event taking place in *December*? Klara mentioned *November* in the initial post, so I think so clarification is in order. :-)

Please log in or join us to post comments in the discussion.

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
