A Local Group is a group of people who, like you, are passionate about design. Local Groups organize meetings to get inspired, have fun and learn from one another.

Meet-Up Details

The Interaction16 conference, focusing on the future of interaction design, took place in Helsinki earlier this year. The first time we will bring the highlights of one of the biggest interaction design conference in the world to Vienna.

Every year, the interaction design community gathers in one place to stretch our minds, sharpen our skills and inspire each other. The overarching theme that Interaction 16 explored was "what’s next", in the context of the future of interaction design as a craft, as a profession, and design practice as a whole.

Join us on Tuesday, 27 September at IBM in Vienna for an evening of presentations and discussions, followed by conversation and refreshments. Free entrance - but you need to register for this event.

SCHEDULE

17:30 Check-In

18:00 Introduction

18:30–19:00 Robot ethics and the future of Human-Robot Interaction by Claudia Oster
Robots are coming more and more into our life – at home or in our work environment, when we want to learn something new or when we are ill. In this short talk Claudia will show you how we build a relationship with robots through anthropomorphism and how this is influencing how we feel and behave.

19:05–19:35 Algorithms as Design Material by Jörg Linder
Algorithms that predict user behavior already make up a huge part of our experience with interactive services. Spotify's Discover Weekly-service recommends new music to us, algorithms tell us when to expect buses and other means of public transport and last but not least chatbots use algorithms to interact with us. But how can you as a designer incorporate algorithms in your work? Join us to find out!

19:50–20:20 Design fast, work slower by Max Scheugl
2016 the Swedish designer Can Kilicbay discovered a secret recipe: He managed to turn overworked designers with burnout symptoms into a happy and successful designers. And he says it's no magic. Join our event to learn the secret.

20:25–20:55 Don't make volunteers think by Stephan Bazalka (Caritas)
Last year Caritas was facing a huge group of volunteers which wanted to help in the refugee crisis. In an ad-hoc manner they tried to handle that with various tools like SMS, Doodle and Facebook. In the last months Caritas created a new tool and in this process they have to take care that the volunteers are getting a tool that supports their willingness to contribute. Stephan will share his experiences and insights.

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
