Meet-Up Details

Hi IxDF Salt Lake City/Orem, let’s meet up and network! You’ll have a chance to meet IxD students in the Digital Media program and participate in our fall semester VR/Mixed Reality experience night. We’ll focus on learning about the fast evolving ‘Spatial Design’ by using a variety of headsets, including our newly arrived Microsoft HoloLens 2 - a don’t miss opportunity to glimpse future challenges in UX.

We’ll also have time to share design insights, suggest resources, discuss UX problems we are all facing in these challenging times, or just chat about anything else that comes to mind. It’s going to be an informal, cozy meet-up at Utah Valley University in our UX Design Lab, with fellow designers who think Utah is a great place to live and work. Join us!

Meet-Up Discussion

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss IxD Meet-up at UVU held on Aug 24, 2021. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

So, is this 6 a.m. MST or 7 a.m.?
And if this being held at UVU, what’s the exact location?

Thanks much for any clarifications.

Sorry for the late update. Yes, it’ll be on the UVU Orem Campus, in the Computer Science Building and the Digital Media Department program - Interaction & Design program. We’ll provide the directions and parking instructions soon. Also, the goal is to introduce the community to our IxD Collaborative (student-driven organization) and how our students can be a fantastic resource across industry.

I guess one item I can ask, what focus would the community like to address at the event? We’re open to change ours if another is of greater need. One option we have is to showcase UX/IxD in VR and Mixed Reality environments as we begin to explore this area deeply. Options…

Meetup Update: We have a few folks that would like to attend, and that’s a good thing, as I wanted to meet some of the local IDF members; however, after only one full day of fall semester, Covid policies are running rampant. So, as a precaution to not run afoul of any potential issues I have decided to postpone the event until I can surmise how we can properly allow off-site visitors on campus and not bring down h3e wrath of Kahn upon us. I apologize for any inconvenience this may pose for adjusted schedules. We’ll reschedule. If you have any questions or requests for Spatial Design, please send my way > Michael.harper@uvu.edu

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
