Hello all!

As the local lead for Ann Arbor, I am so excited to get our group going for 2023! Note that we are trying put this hangout schedule and as such I am using a free Zoom account that only allows for 40 minute meetings. The Zoom UI drop down options for meeting duration does not have 40 minutes, but 45. And the meeting IxDF Hangout set up allows for 30/60 minute hangouts in its options! lol These are the problems we solve!

Please post a brief intro of yourself and if you would be so kind, post what you hope to get out of being an active member of this group. I look forward to meeting you and growing together.

What I hope to get out of this IxDF group:
I am seeking to refine my leadership skills, provide informative/interactive webinars, and learn more from all of you as well as share what I have learned over the years. I am also looking to create new friends with similar interests and grow my professional network in the Ann Arbor area.

About me:
I am a very curious, friendly and outgoing person with an unquenchable desire to learn new things. I am currently a Sr. Lead UX Designer. My past professional contributions include work as a graphic designer, illustrator, art director, front end developer, email developer, creative services lead, and UX Manager (UX/UI, CRO, WCAG). I have also attained certificates in Java, Ruby on Rails, PhP, etc. which has really helped me work efficiently and collaborate well with developers. I am currently studying XR/VR/AR/MR and am seeking to finish up a course on this.

Hi! I’m a UX professional and developer. I live in Mason but work remotely in Ann Arbor for Menlo Innovations. Though I enjoy programming, too, I really loved doing UX work in the past. I had a blast with the University of Minnesota UX Research and Design MasterTrack Certificate I recently finished. I have a stronger background in UX Research and I’d like to up my skills in design. I am excited about meeting other UX professionals in Michigan.

Thank you to the wonderful group that joined tonight. It was a pleasure to meet you all!

As mentioned, we will be sending out a survey soon to our members to learn what types of activities you all are interested in. I did share that I welcome the opportunity to meet monthly in person for a casual dinner or tapas and cocktails before the Ann Arbor New Tech Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/a2newtech/ This would be in addition to hosting a monthly online meeting like we had tonight. We also discussed having additional design review sessions on an as needed/requested basis. If you are interested either and/or helping out by facilitating a workshop or meeting here or there, send me a private message. Overall, we want to keep all our gatherings casual and fun while being respectful and professional.

It is predicted that in 2023 the creation of AR/VR experiences will only continue to grow in demand. This opens up a lot of opportunity in our space to expand our skill sets and to be ready for exciting new career opportunities. (Did I mention that AR/VR designers make bank?) Tonight, we had an exploration of a VR meeting environment in Mozilla Hubs where no headset was required. We got around and created in the environment with a desktop keyboard. Anthony even joined on his phone and shared what that was like too. I shared how large corporations are now utilizing VR space for company meetings and encouraged you all to start using the space for your meetings too.
