IxDF San Diego - April Designathon

Welcome to the first ever Designathon for IxDF San Diego!

Start Time: April 7, 2018 @ 12:00 PM PDT

End Time: April 7, 2018 @ 8:00 PM PDT

Voting Time: April 7, 2018 @ 8:00 PM - April 8, 2018 @ 12:00 PM PDT

Challenge:

We spend around 4 hours on our phones every day and notifications play a big part in our continued use. We have multiple apps installed that constantly try to communicate with us in a form of a notification and processing all that information can be quite overwhelming.

Design a better notification experience for your favorite mobile platform (iOS, Android, etc).

Voting Poll:
Due to no submissions there will be no voting.

Event Details:

  • The designathon theme will be announced at (or before) 12:00 PM on April 7, 2018 on this thread.
  • Design a prototype (through Sketch, InVision, Adobe XD, or another prototyping tool) as a team or individual. A working application (or site) is not required.
  • Your submission must be in before 8:00 PM on April 7, 2018.
  • The winner(s) will be decided via online voting by the IxDF San Diego community.
  • The winner(s) will receive bragging rights and envy from their peers!
  • The goals of the designathon are to have fun while designing a solution to a problem.

Submission Requirements:

  • The first screen of the prototype must contain your full name, a photo, and link to your IxDF Certification of Membership (the link can be found on your IxDF profile page).
  • A recording and narrative about your solution as you demonstrate your prototype (video or screen recording are fine). Upload the video to YouTube and copy the link to your submission.
  • Optional: A link to your prototype.
  • The submission must come in the form of a comment on this thread.

GOOD LUCK!

Meet-Up Conversation

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss IxDF San Diego - April Designathon held on Apr 7, 2018. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

Oh myyy what is THISSS?! Intrigued... has this happened before?

Not to my knowledge. It may be the first ever in IxDF history? I’d love to find out.

Is there a place? Or is this just happening online? Also... a bit confused about this:

"The first screen of the prototype must contain your full name, a photo, and link to your IDF Certification of Membership (the link can be found on your IDF profile page)."

Do they mean the screen of an app or website requires this information? If so, that seems pretty odd ?

Yup, just online for the first one. If people like it I can try making it an in-person event in the future.

Yeah, I can see that wording being confusing. The first “page” or “screen” of the prototype recording should have your full name, your profile photo, and a link to your IDF membership page. This is to showcase you as the designer and ensure that when it comes to voting the right person gets selected. I like to think of it as a cover page.

sweet. Can’t wait

We are now under the 24 hour marker for the designathon!

Here is a hint about tomorrow's challenge:
On average, we use our phones for 4 hours a day, and "THIS FEATURE" plays a big part in our continued use.

More about "THIS FEATURE" tomorrow!

Would love to play but I have too much going at the moment. Keep me on the list for the next and I'm excited to see the results!

Get those pencils sharpened, your markers full of ink, make sure your post-it notes are sticky, and your laptop’s battery is charged to 100% because we are 1 hour away until the challenge is announced!

*Coffee, energy drinks, and other mind enhancing substances optional.

Less then 1 hour to go, start finalizing your prototype and begin recording your submission.

hey there! So sorry I couldn't make this! I'd like to do something like this at another time, April's been a slightly hectic month for me!

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
