Meet-Up Details

Hi IxDF London, let’s meet up and network over coffee! Share UX design insights and resources, discuss UX problems you are facing now, or just chat about anything else. It’s going to be an informal, cozy meet-up with fellow designers!

Meet-Up Discussion

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss Meet up and smell the coffee held on Mar 8, 2023. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

So yeah, I just joined IDF recently and haven’t found any meetups in London so I’m thinking (helped by the nudge from this platform; nicely done!) why not set one up myself?

It’s guaranteed to be small and informal, and unless I find a different venue the coffee won’t be amazing. But meeting new UX practitioners and hearing your stories will!

It would be great if we can attend via online too ?

Thanks for that Keerti; yes I agree in principle but doing a hybrid event in a public place is just too difficult!

As it is in my neighbourhood, I will try my best to make it - all depending on whether clients wants me to do something else.

Adding, there is a few Costa coffee shops close by Shoreditch High Street Station. They have bigger coffee cups and comfortable seating :-)

PS: It says 1st of March on the email promotion, and 8th of March at the top of this page?
Might need a UX person to fix that one ;-)

Thanks for the excellent response; I feel I need to limit the numbers but can’t find a way to do it…

A London IDF meetup sounds like a great idea.

But 11am on a weekday? I’m guessing this is an idea that is more geared towards freelancers.

Great work Per. Please keep them coming as I won’t be able to attend this one but certainly will in future

Hi Per, I’ve got this in my diary for Wednesday. Can you confirm if it’s 1st or 8th please?

Hi Gilmar, My apologies for this very late response; it’s the 8th (thankfully as we would all have missed it otherwise…;-)

Hey Per, 11-12 on a weekday is indeed a tough one, will try to join.

Hi, Per! Thanks for setting this up. I would love to attend but will be working at the time. Perhaps we should set another up for a weekday evening for those of us who can’t make it in the daytime.

Hi all, I’m very much looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday. I will be finalizing the venue in the next 24 hours and will update you here.

I don’t have much of an agenda so I’d like you all to answer the following question in this thread:

What would be a great outcome of this meet-up?

To me, it’s just to get to know some fellow designers, hear some stories, and learn from people. Specifically, I’m curious to hear if anyone can share their experience of using storytelling in their work.

How about you?

Hi all, I'm delighted to say I've found what looks like the perfect place to meet, and to smell coffee. I've reserved the downstairs room at Coffee Matters in bethnal Green Road.

Morning all, I’m very much looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. I note that there are no responses to my last messages and I’m starting to wonder whether people will actually turn up tomorrow. I’m new to the IDF and the meetups so I’m unsure how it normally works, but can I just ask you all to update your status so we all know who will be attending?

Just to confirm it’s at coffee matters and not Pret.

Thanks Gurdeet - yes it’s at Coffee Matters!

157 Bethnal Grn Rd, London E2 7DG

So, thank you Gurdeet for attending the meet-up! 😅🎉 It was really interesting to hear about your research projects and your Notion portfolio is awesome.

My apologies to anyone who may have gone to Pret instead (the original venue). I understand that if you had added the event to your Google calendar the location would not have updated when I changed it. You live and learn.

On that note something we now know is that Coffee Matters is a great venue, so I’m keen to organise more meet-ups there. Probably evening time though. And when there’s no sleet coming down.

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
