Meet-Up Details

Hi IxDF San Diego, let's meet up and network over coffee! Share UX design insights and resources, discuss UX problems you are facing now, or just chat about anything else. It's going to be an informal, cozy meet-up with fellow designers!

Meet-Up Discussion

Hi all! Please use this discussion thread to discuss The UX Perk held on Jan 29, 2018. Feel free to ask questions about the place, date and time, agenda of the meeting, or anything else.

I'm being selfish but I hope the coffee shop that Nick finds is somewhere near the 5 freeway. Looking forward to this meetup!

Hey Rodney! I'm game for a spot near the 5. What part of town are you in?

I’m in Vista but work in Sorrento Valley.

I'm recovering from the flu and will likely not feel well enough to attend this month, but please keep me posted on the meetup details! Hey, Rodney, fancy meeting you here! :)

Rodney and Jonathan - Let's defer this month and shoot for our first get together in February. Is there a day of the week and/or time that works better for either of you?

Hey, Nick, Rodney and I work at the same company, located near Mira Mesa blvd and 805. Would a meetup over lunch, or after work at Green Flash Brewery work for you?

Hi Jonathan - I'm game for a meet up near Sorrento. I have a friend who works near that area (also a designer) that may want to join. Let's shoot for our first meet up at Green Flash next month. I'm generally flexible with the exception of Monday evenings. How about the third Thursday of the month?

If we go the brewery route I'll need your help coming up with a new name :)

The Spirits of UX?

I intend to show up.I'd like to tell all of you about other UX groups in San Diego, and especially about DFA http://www.designforwardsd.com/the-alliance/. I'm also a board member of IxDF.

I am thrilled to get to meet you and I am looking forward to hearing about the other groups in San Diego!

Hi there,

I am definitely interested in this event! However, I just want to make sure that I have the details correct. Is this a monthly event that will occur at 6:00 p.m. at Green Flash Brewery every third Thursday of the month from February through April? Meaning that the first meeting would be this Thursday, the 15th?

Also, is there any associated MeetUp event or group for this? I tried to find one, but I didn't. However, I do see that another MeetUp group is meeting there on the 15th at 6 to discuss bitcoin and such.

I just am asking to double check about the date since one comment mentioned getting together next month. Thanks again!

As far as I know we area go for tonight. I will be there

well, I’m here early. Anyone else coming

Sorry for missing the event. Obviously, the choice of time and location were a test: I failed.

After a day with some tense meetings, I finally set out for the Green Flash.

Test 1: 6PM is peak traffic time through Sorrento Valley. It took a long time to wade through the traffic and get to the Green Flash. I succeeded in spotting the building, but i most certainly did not feel relaxed. I was looking forward to meeting all of you.

Test 2. How does one enter the building? There is no entrance and no parking on the main street. I turned at the street just in front of the Green Flash and found nothing that looked like an entrance, so I made a U-turn and went back to the main street and turned right, thinking I would drive past the Green Flash and surely there must be an entrance on the main street. Nope. So I went to the next traffic light, waited forever until i got a left turn light and made a U-Turn. Went back to the cross street and turned left past the Green Flash. Then turned left at the next street. Eventually I found a parking lot. There were no empty parking spots, and there were a lot of cars circling around, all hunting. At this point, almost an hour had past. I was far less relaxed than is comfortable.

I turned around and went home.

As I said, this was clearly a usability coping test. I failed the test.

Thank you for all the effort that you took to meet us there! I am sure that some of us would be more than willing to meet you at another spot at a different time (*raises hand excitedly*) if you would feel more comfortable.

I had quite a few tests tonight myself, so I sympathize with your experience. First, I was coming from Romoland (near Perris) and had a tire low on air. I went to use an air pump at a gas station, and this air pump was the most complicated air pump I've ever seen. You had to set the air pressure ahead of time otherwise it would set your tire pressure for ~30psi. Of course, I didn't think I had to preset my air pressure, so I didn't and it deflated my tire. Then, I went back and inspected the machine since it didn't seem to be working, saw I needed to preset it, so I set it to 50 which is the psi my tire needed, and it still wouldn't inflate it. Needless to say, I think that air machine is an utter failure.

Then, I drive some miles to another gas station and I kid you not the air pump was 300 ft from the gas station's building, and at the bottom of an incline! The compressor was literally the farthest thing away from the building on the entire lot! Talk about two design issues in one night. My nerves were definitely tested as I started to run late for the event...

I was pleased to meet those who made it, and sip on a delightful passionfruit beer. I have to say, Green Flash Brewery seems like a very cool place to grab a beer!

That’s ok. Jayalaxmi, April, and I got to meet and get to know each other. Better luck next month, yes

Hi everyone! I had to edit the meetup because it is throwing off new members (and the way IDF handles meetups doesn't make it easy to create). Seems like we have to make a single event each time for a new meetup.

So, moving forward or until some enhancements are made to make it easy to create recurring meetups, let's do single events.

Meet-up attendees

Members can show their interest to attend a meet-up by clicking “Attend this meet-up” button. In addition, since Local Groups events are open to all, non-members can also attend these meet-ups.

Members might be bringing their non-member friends to a Local Group meet-up (and you’re welcome to do the same), but their non-member friends will not be shown as “attending” because this feature is only available to members.

P.S.: Note that the number of attendees is not an indication of its value! Small meet-ups work perfectly, and can facilitate deeper, more fruitful conversations.
