Richard Sennett (born Chicago, 1 January 1943) is the Centennial Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics and University Professor of the Humanities at New York University. He has been a Fellow of The Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and was elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He is the founding director of the New York Institute for the Humanities.
Sennett is probably best known for his studies of social ties in cities, and the effects of urban living on individuals in the modern world.
