Author: Martin Dzbor

Martin Dzbor obtained MSc in Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Technology in Kosice, Slovakia in 1996. In 2002 he obtained PhD in Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Engineering from The Open University, and currently concludes his MBA. His PhD proposed a theory of representing various acts of creative thinking in engineering design and a method for applying these representations in improving design support. Later he extended this work to the domain of semantic web, which led to the development of Magpie - one of the first semantic web browsers capable of assisting the user with the interpretation of web pages and exploration of associated knowledge spaces using user-selectable perspectives.

Martin works at the Knowledge Media Institute, UK on the EU funded KnowledgeWeb Network of Excellence, where he develops methodology and architecture for the advanced semantic platform for learning, using successful Magpie framework, which became KMi's flagship semantic technology. Prior to this he has been active in two high-profile projects - climateprediction.net (a massively distributed computing project) and AKT: Advanced Knowledge Technologies (a collaboration of six leading UK universities in semantic web technologies). Recently, together with Prof. Motta he became a coordinator of NeOn - EU funded project investigating among other issues also the human-ontology interaction in networked, dynamically evolving and contextually aware environments.

Martin is a member of editorial board of International Journal of Knowledge and Learning and of the programme committee of International Semantic Web Conference. He organizes workshops on user aspects of the semantic web. His other activities and publications can be found at http://kmi.open.ac.uk/people/dzbor.
