Author: Steven P. Frysinger

Steve Frysinger is a Professor at James Madison University, where he has a joint appointment in both the Integrated Science and Technology Department and the Computer Science Department. He is also a Guest Professor at the University of Applied Science in Saarbrücken, Germany. Prior to joining JMU in 1995 Steve was a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories and AT&T.

Steve has a diverse educational background:

  • B.A. in Environmental Studies/Physics (William Paterson College)

  • M.S. in Computer Science (Stevens Institute of Technology)

  • M.S. in Applied Psychology/Human Factors (Stevens Institute of Technology): Pattern Recognition in Auditory Data Representation

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences (Rutgers University): Environmental Decision Support Systems: An Interdisciplinary Approach for Risk-based Environmental Management

One of the original researchers in Auditory Data Representation, Steve's work in interactive systems research and design started in 1980 while he was employed by Exxon Research and Engineering company, continued at Bell Labs, and now largely manifests itself in the context of highly interactive Environmental Decision Support Systems.
