Wolfgang Strauss
is a German architect, media artist and scientist. He studied Architecture at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. In 1984 his professional career has started by assistant teaching and practising with German architect Prof. Ingeborg Kuhler. Since 1987, when he co-founded Art+Com in Berlin, he has produced a large number of interactive installations in cooperation with media artist Monika Fleischmann. In the R&D field Strauss has been lead scientist for Mixed Reality Spaces (Wissensraum / Wissenskünste) at the Fraunhofer IMK - MARS - Exploratory Media Lab since 1997. In 2005 he has initiated the eCulture Factory of Fraunhofer IAIS to bring good ideas to the right people.
With his artistic research he creates real and virtual architecture, knowledge spaces and playfull interfaces. His main focus is on staging the thinking space that surrounds the human. Exemplary work can be seen in the ZKM exhibition YOU_ser - the century of the consumer.
He has published more than 100 scientific papers, artistic essays and theoretical articles, and received 22 awards - amongst them the Golden Nica for Interactive Art of Ars Electronica. He had guest professorships, fellowships, lectures and talks internationally. Recently he is teaching designing interaction for digital media students at Hochschule Bremen.
