Shamus Smith is a Lecturer in Computer Science in the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at Durham University (UK). He has research interests in virtual reality and human-computer interaction.

He has published articles on the design, specification and evaluation of interactive systems,

the evaluation of haptic-based medical systems and the reuse of computer game technology.





He is a Fellow of the Wolfson Research Institute and is a member of the



Technology Enhanced Learning Group and the

Innovative Computing Group





He teaches human-computer interaction, critical systems, non-functional requirements and risk analysis at undergraduate level and software dependability and

software engineering at MSc level. He supervises PhD students and would be interested in taking on postgraduate students with research interests in virtual reality, human-computer interaction

or computer game technology.





He is a Guest Editor on a Special Issue of the

International Journal of Human-Computer Studies (IJHCS)

on Development, Evaluation and Deployment of Multi-touch Systems. Submissions due 30th July 2011. See the Call for Papers [PDF].
